Welcome to Pediatrician Specialty Practices, where we prioritize the health and well-being of your newborn. Led by Dr. Nauman Ahmad, MD, FAAP, our private pediatric practice in Federal Way and Puyallup, Washington, specializes in providing personalized and attentive care for infants from day one. Our experienced team is dedicated to ensuring your baby receives the best start in life.
Newborn care is crucial for ensuring your baby’s healthy development. The first few weeks and months of life are vital for monitoring growth, assessing health, and establishing a strong foundation for future well-being. Our compassionate team understands the concerns and questions parents often have, and we are here to provide guidance and support every step of the way.
It’s important to schedule your baby’s first pediatric visit when they are just 2 to 5 days old. After the initial visit, well-child checkups are typically scheduled monthly until your baby is 4 months old. Following this, visits are generally at 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, 30 months, and 3 years old. After age three, well-child visits usually transition to once a year. Regular checkups allow us to monitor your baby’s growth, address any concerns, and provide vaccinations to protect against common illnesses.
Our goal is to work closely with you to understand your child’s unique background and risk factors, ensuring a thorough and informed diagnosis.
A fever in a newborn is defined as a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. For babies over three months, a fever is considered 101°F (38.3°C) or above. Since newborns have immature immune systems, fevers can be serious. If your newborn has a fever, please contact us immediately for guidance and care.
While many newborn issues can be managed with regular care, some situations require urgent attention. Contact us right away if your baby exhibits any of the following symptoms:
We offer same-day appointments for sick visits, ensuring your newborn receives timely care when unexpected health concerns arise.
To protect your newborn’s health, we generally recommend limiting exposure to crowded places until they are at least three months old. Even after this age, parents should ensure that anyone holding the baby has clean hands and that sick individuals keep their distance.
Newborns typically feed every 2-3 hours and may consume 1-3 ounces at each feeding. It’s normal for babies to lose up to 7% of their body weight in the first few days after birth. However, as long as they are feeding regularly, they should regain their birth weight within a couple of weeks.
The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®) have recognized St. Francis Hospital for excellence in lactation care.
